Kannawidan on the Weekends
As someone who lived in Ilocos Sur for 5 years without knowing any dialect apart from the words "yes"and "no, you expect them to know what Kannawidan Festival is all about. I don't. So come with me, as I, who knows nothing about this festivity, learn and explain to you all about it. So to my surprise, Kannawidan isn't actually some sort of spell to cast on my enemies, but is actually a celebration for the separation of both Ilocos Sur, and Ilocos Norte. (Very much how I like my Oreos). It’s where people perform various activities such as folk dancing, traditional tribal rituals, singing, contests, and even cooking! From what I researched, it’s said that it’s their way of saying thanks to the Almighty for their blessings, a rich heritage province, and family. The reason though apart from what I said as to why they celebrate is so that Gen Z children will learn more and appreciate their culture and tradition and not Edward from the Twilight Saga (btw, do not watch!)...
