“The Bright Light of the Bigueños”

Christmas is the season of giving gifts to your loved ones and expressing your feelings to the people you love. And in the Philippines, in the lovely city of Vigan, is the time for
Bigueños and Ilocanos alike to express themselves with the use of their creativity and talent to show their pride and love for being a Filipino even amidst the Pandemic. And so, in this blog, I will be talking about how Bigueños celebrated their bright white Christmas.

Even though the Pandemic has greatly affected the lives of everyone including the Bigueños, they still find ways to celebrate the Happy Holidays with their loved ones. With the rising evolution of technology, they used it to their advantage to continue on and celebrate it with the Christmas spirit whilst abiding with the Minimum Health Standards. They did so by hosting most of the events through online means and holding home-based competitions. One example is the Christmas Card Making Competition. In this event, the Bigueño children were tasked to make their best entry in a span of two days. It shows their creativity and practice in writing using their Iloco language. Another example is the Street Painting Competition. Here, they showcase their passion and talent for art by painting on the streets and showing it to everyone. Overall, this goes to show that even in the darkest of times, we can still be happy and celebrate with the people we love greatly, and unconditionally.

In conclusion, even though the Bigueños were greatly affected by the pandemic, they stayed resilient. With the use of technology, they continued on to celebrate all that’s to love about this lovely Holiday without risking their lives by partaking the events in an online setting and hosting competitions in the safety of their homes. And after seeing all that they did to celebrate, I gotta say, they finished of this year with a bang. This is Zuirich, signing off.
