"Empowered Women, Empowered Mothers"

Image
For a long time, women have been subjected to gender roles and unfair treatment. And eversince they, at heart, fought for the equality between man and woman, they have been cited the most important people in our society, including our lives. Who am I talking about? Well, in this blog, I will be talking about the most empowered women of all (in my opinion), my Mother. Women have made many contributions to our society such as education, the workforce, and many more. An example of this is my Mother, the most empowered and hard-working woman that I know of. She has been taking care of me and 3 other kids for the span of 16 years. She was there when we were sick. She was the one who kept urging us to study and have a better life. And she was there when the family had.....complications. She has been taking care of me and my other siblings and putting up with us for our whole lives and providing what we need for school, home, and many more when someone went MIA in the past. What makes her mo...

"3rd Quarter, Done!"

Image
Finally after many long weeks and hours of answering sheets, we've done it people. We've finished 3/4 of the School Year! We've had challenges in this Quarter as always, but even so, we've also learned a lot of things! And in this blog, I'll be sharing some of the things that I've learned throughout these 2 months!   One of the favorite things I've learned in this Quarter is Break Dancing in P.E.! Who knew there were so many different types of moves like the Krumping or B-boying! I have tried several of those moves actually during the time and boy let me tell you that it's hard, but also quite fun! Another one is Writing Critiques and the ways on how to approach one! I may not be good at analyzing poems, but I am good at overthinking things that I do enjoy like visual novels, movies, etc.. I do find it confusing when it comes to poetry, but it is enjoyable once you've understand how the whole analyzing thing works (and if your critiqing on something ...

“Immunity for the Youth”

Image
In the history of our time in the world, we have been affected by many diseases like chicken pox and dengue that has caused many casualties and problems to anyone who has been plagued by it. It’s the reason why vaccines were created. To immunize us from infectious diseases, and even dangerous ones, especially in the Pandemic. But why? Well, in this blog, I’ll be giving an explanation on what you need to know about vaccines, and why they’re important, including children and teens alike. A vaccine is a type of medicine that trains a body’s immune system to fight a disease that it has never come to contact with before and are designed to prevent them, rather than treat them. It’s why these things are very valuable in a public health standpoint. Because these prevent a disease to ever happen again, it can stop the spreading of said disease to a large portion of the population, guaranteeing almost everyone’s safety from the infectious. And since they prevent the increase of infected recipie...

"Veteran Valor"

Image
In April 8, 1942, the senior U.S. commander of Bataan saw how it was useless to fight back against the 65th  Brigade of Japan. And so on the next day of April 9, they negotiated with the Major General of Japan and surrendered a total of 76,000 starving and disease-ridden soldiers, with 64,400 of them being Filipinos and 12,000 of them being Americans. This led to the infamous event called the Bataan Death March, resulting in a thousand deaths from starvation, mistreatment, and disease along the 65 miles from Mariveles, on the southern end of the Bataan Peninsula, to San Fernando. This is the reason why they celebrate the Day of Valor, or Araw ng Kagitingan. But what is Araw ng Kagitingan? You’ll find out in this Blog. Araw ng Kagitingan, also known as the Day of Valor, is a non-working holiday where people remember and respect the heroism of Filipinos and Americans who helped bring democracy and freedom in the Philippines during the time of World War II. It is celebrated on the 9th...

“Reflecting through Faith in the Pandemic”

Image
As a Newborn Christian, I never celebrated Lenten season because, well, Religion. It’s my first time hearing about this despite living in a Region with a lot of Catholics present. And so, I will be doing a little research about this season because even if I am the minority in this situation, I am curious as to how they are celebrating this during the Pandemic.   According to what I have read, Lenten Season is a time where Filipino people, specifically the Catholics, are reminded of Christ’s passion, suffering, death, and resurrection. The reason as to why they celebrate it, is to set aside time to reflect on Jesus Christ’s suffering and resurrection. It spans up to 40 days, with the season starting on Ash Wednesday and ending before Easter Sunday. Another thing that happens during this time is Holy week, which happens a week before Easter Sunday. It’s said that it starts on Palm Sunday and ends on Black Saturday, the day before Easter. Now, during the whole season, they would also ...

Kannawidan on the Weekends

Image
As someone who lived in Ilocos Sur for 5 years without knowing any dialect apart from the words "yes"and "no, you expect them to know what Kannawidan Festival is all about. I don't. So come with me, as I, who knows nothing about this festivity, learn and explain to you all about it. So to my surprise, Kannawidan isn't actually some sort of spell to cast on my enemies, but is actually a celebration for the separation of both Ilocos Sur, and Ilocos Norte. (Very much how I like my Oreos). It’s where people perform various activities such as folk dancing, traditional tribal rituals, singing, contests, and even cooking! From what I researched, it’s said that it’s their way of saying thanks to the Almighty for their blessings, a rich heritage province, and family. The reason though apart from what I said as to why they celebrate is so that Gen Z children will learn more and appreciate their culture and tradition and not Edward from the Twilight Saga (btw, do not watch!)...

“The Bright Light of the Bigueños”

Image
Christmas is the season of giving gifts to your loved ones and expressing your feelings to the people you love. And in the Philippines, in the lovely city of Vigan, is the time for Bigueños  and Ilocanos alike to express themselves with the use of their creativity and talent to show their pride and love for being a Filipino even amidst the Pandemic. And so, in this blog, I will be talking about how Bigueños  celebrated their bright white Christmas.   Even though the Pandemic has greatly affected the lives of everyone including the Bigueños , they still find ways to celebrate the Happy Holidays with their loved ones. With the rising evolution of technology, they used it to their advantage to continue on and celebrate it with the Christmas spirit whilst abiding with the Minimum Health Standards. They did so by hosting most of the events through online means and holding home-based competitions. One example is the Christmas Card Making Competition. In this event, the Bigueño ...
