Mining: A Punch to Earth's Guts

Image
Mining has done a great benefit for human society. Because of it, we are able to live comfortably and easy because of the materials it provides that allows us to create the things we have today. And what’s more is that it can provide jobs to those who need it to take care of a family, or yourself. But just because mining provides these things for us, doesn’t mean we should rest comfortably. Like they say, “when there’s an upside, there’s a downside to it as well”.   One of the downsides when it comes to mining is the impact it has on the environment. Because of how mining operations work, it can drastically affect the health and quality of what we as people need to live. An example of this is the air. Because of the exposed mineral deposits caused by mining, the toxic elements such as Lead(which is known to cause memory loss) and Arsenic(which is known to cause GI Effects) that are contained in the minerals can become airborne and affect the health of the people who live closely to t

“School Year Fun”

Image
So the 4th  Quarter is almost ending. After 10 months of school work and for Thematic Projects plus other things, the time is almost there. For the past weeks of this Quarter, I learned a few things from my teachers of course, regarding their specialized field of course. But I also had fun throughout these past few days. So instead of boring the viewer with what I learned throughout my time in this Quarter, I’ll instead talk about the fun times that happened during my time at school. First and foremost, face-to-face classes. That was a bit nerve wracking. I remember the past few days, my hands were shaking, though I don’t know why. I was happy that I was able to see old class mates and what has changed with them over the past few months of quarantine, some of them grew taller, some remained the same, some started to wear accessories, and some never changed. It was fun overall seeing them after more than a while. Especially the time I spent over the net few weeks of face-to-face classes

“A Life-long Message”

Like mothers, fathers are just as important in a family. Whether they’re the breadwinner, or the house husband, they hold as much value as their counterpart. And as the offspring that was the sole reason why two individuals created such bonds, we should appreciate them more. Hence, Father’s Day. And to commemorate this holiday despite it being a week since, I’ll be talking about the many things my father has done for me, regardless of past upbringings. Like most families, everyone has a father. And for the most part, they stay together for a long time. But that’s not the case for me. To sum it up, my father wasn’t with me the whole time during childhood. I know it was because of work-related well, work, it was understandable. But then all of a sudden, we moved away from him, and for a while, I wasn’t able to see him for more than a while. A few years later, he came back and we were able to spend so much time with him. I had fun going places with him, visiting my childhood home, and man

“Independency”

June 12. The day in which the annual celebration of our country’s Independence is commemorated by our fellow countrymen and women alike. The day in which everyone reminiscence the time in which our nation was given a right to be governed by no one else but our blood kin. But how did this day came to be? How did become the holiday we all know and celebrate?   Here’s a brief history on how the Independence Day of the Philippines became the holiday we all know and commemorate.   It all started back in 1565, when the Spainiards arrived in the Philippines and colonized the Filipinos. Their homes were taken away from us and they were introduced into new things such as religion and a new government system. Soon after their lives changed. For better, and for the worse. The Filipinos were discriminated upon. Social hierarchies soon became in place in the country. And some people weren’t able to pursue education because of poverty and discrimination. But all of that changed when Jose Rizal came

“Flourishing Carnations”

Mothers around the world work hard, whether they cook, clean, and care, or outside of home, where they spend long hours providing for their family. People like them deserve to be honored and be appreciated for their hard work and what they’ve done for the family, related by blood or not. This is where Mother’s Day steps in, known to be a holiday dedicated to honoring those who’ve entered motherhood. But where did it come from? How did it come to be the holiday we all know and celebrate worldwide? This is where this blog enters the fray. It all started when Anna Jarvis’ mother, Ann Reeves Jarvis, died on May 9, 1905. Before she passed, she had a wish for a day where mothers are commemorated for their matchless service and hard work. Eager to fulfill her mother’s wish, she started a writing campaign, writing letters to politicians, businessmen, and church leaders to support her movement on proposing the second Sunday as a day dedicated to mothers. The reason as to why is because the da

"Cotton Pods and Bamboo"

Many Festivals are celebrated in the home of Vigan such as the Kannawidan Festival and the Longganisa Festival to name a few. And each of these Festivals are deeply rooted in their history and culture, including the one that involves cotton pods and bamboo sticks. In this blog I will be doing a little explanation on the Binatbatan Festival, it’s roots, it’s purpose, and the activities done during the time of the celebration. Binatbatan Festival is celebrated on May 11, 2021, in the time of the Viva Vigan Festival Arts. It got its name from the Iluko term “batbatin”, the process of separating cotton balls from the seeds of the local fruit tree, Kapas Sanglay, or from the word, “batbat”, a pair of bamboo sticks used to separate the cotton pods from what I found. It’s roots traces back to the Abel Weaving Industry that existed long before the Spaniards arrived in the Philippines and where the Abel Iloko, a woven cloth distinct in the Ilocos Region, is made. During the Festival, you’ll s
